IPA Vancouver Island (Region 13)
History
IPA Members on Vancouver Island were originally part of Region 9 (British Columbia). In the mid 1980’s members on Vancouver Island started having more regular meetings in either Victoria, or Nanaimo. From these meeting, discussions around establishing a new region on Vancouver Island started.
On February 27, 1988 at 1300 hours an information meeting was held at the Victoria City Police Officers’ Mess, situated at 625 Fisgard Street, Victoria, BC for membership into the International Police Association.
Ted Ethier attended the meeting and spoke to serving police officers, retired police officers, and reserve officers on the values and benefits of the International Police Association (IPA). Some of the fourteen (14) individuals present for the meeting were former members of the International Police Association (IPA) from other countries or regions, others were potentially new members interested in the fellowship offered by the International Police Association (IPA). It was anticipated that a new region could be formed for the Victoria area and a larger membership would prevail. The information meeting ended with a photo taken of attendees.
On May 6, 1989, the International Police Association (IPA), Canadian Section granted Regional status to Vancouver Island – Region 13. Ted Ethier became the first President of IPA Vancouver Island – Region 13.
